Hand Washing

As children return back to school, proper hand hygiene is important to prevent the spread of germs causing illness.  Here are some helpful hints for hand washing:

  • Apply antibacterial soap to hands.
  • Rub hands together for 15-30 seconds. Make sure to rub soap between fingers and on the top of hands too.  Rinse off hands with warm water and dry with a towel.
  • Liquid hand soap and paper towels are preferred over hand sanitizer, bar soap, cloth towels, or air dryers.
  • Hand sanitizer is best to use to disinfect hands when not visibly soiled.

Hand washing should occur before handling food, going to the bathroom, or wiping running noses. Besides hand washing, it is also important to cover your mouth when sneezing or coughing. Children should stay home from school if they are sick.

These tips will help keep children healthier for the school year.
